Colossyan public-data review: two minute pools, and the small one is the one you want
Colossyan sells avatar video in plain minutes rather than credits, which makes it look like the easiest tool in this category to budget — until you notice there are two minute pools. Its pricing page gives Professional 30 minutes a month with NEO and 10 with NEO2, while its own avatar page says every one of its 300+ stock avatars now runs on NEO 2. Read those two official pages together and the plan buys roughly 10 usable stock-avatar minutes a month, not 40 — about $5.90 a finished minute rather than the $1.48 the headline allowance implies. That gap, not the sticker price, is the thing to settle with sales before you buy.
The plans, as published
Colossyan sells three tiers. The allowances below are quoted from the plan cards on the official pricing page; the wording is theirs.

Two things in that table are unusual enough to flag before any arithmetic. The free tier carries 15 custom avatars, which is unusual — Synthesia, for one, lists "Custom on-brand Avatars" only from its paid Starter tier. And the Enterprise row offers unlimited NEO minutes but only "custom" NEO2 minutes, which is the first hint that the two pools are not interchangeable even at the top of the price list.
One price, two readings
Colossyan does not make its annual rate unambiguous, and the two figures differ by 51%. The pricing card shows "$59 /mo" beside a "Yearly -34%" badge, which reads as $59 monthly discounted to about $38.94 on annual billing. But the FAQ on the same page says twice, in prose, that Professional is "$59/month on an annual plan" — which would instead put the monthly rate near $89.39.

CartSignal uses the FAQ figure throughout this page, on the reasoning that a sentence written in prose and repeated twice is stronger evidence than a percentage badge that has to be applied to a number to produce a price. It is a judgement, not a vendor statement, and the badge reading is shown above so you can redo the arithmetic if checkout disagrees. Take the price off the checkout screen, not off either page.
Third-party pricing trackers are worse than unhelpful here. Several still list a Starter at $19 a month annual and a Business at $70 a month per seat. Colossyan's own page sells no Business tier at all, and its Starter is free rather than $19. The $27 that appears in those listings as a Starter monthly price is, on Colossyan's current page, the stated value of that free plan. Treat every tracker figure for this vendor as describing a lineup that has been replaced.
The finding that should decide your plan: which pool do stock avatars use?
This is the one genuinely consequential thing on the page, and it is a contradiction between two Colossyan pages rather than a rate.
The AI avatars page states that "Every stock avatar in the library now runs on NEO 2", across "300+ stock avatars". It describes NEO 2 as a rebuilt engine with "full-body mechanism with natural weight shifts", "gestures, head turns, and eye contact timed to speech" and "rendering quality closer to live video", against NEO 1's "upper-body framing with limited movement range". NEO 2 also carries "no industry restrictions" where NEO 1 had them.
The pricing page, meanwhile, meters the two separately and rations NEO2 at 3:1 against NEO — 30 minutes to 10 on Professional — and gives the free Starter tier no NEO2 minutes at all, while the FAQ simultaneously advertises that the free plan includes "our entire 300+ avatar library with best-in-class avatars".
Those statements do not sit together. If the whole stock library really runs on NEO 2, then a Professional buyer has 10 usable stock-avatar minutes a month and a free-plan user has none, and both plans are advertised on a minute count they cannot spend on the avatars they are being sold. If instead NEO 1 versions of the stock avatars are still reachable, the 30 NEO minutes are real but they render in the older, upper-body, movement-limited engine that Colossyan itself is no longer marketing.

CartSignal cannot resolve this from public data — the help-centre article that would settle it sits behind a Zendesk that returns HTTP 403 — so it is published as an open question rather than a ruling. It is also, bluntly, the single question worth asking sales before you pay: the answer moves the real cost of the plan by 4x.
The scale problem is easier to see against length. Colossyan's own guidance, surfaced through search indexing rather than a page CartSignal could fetch, recommends keeping videos under about 30 minutes. Ten NEO2 minutes a month is a third of one such video — so if the restrictive reading holds, Professional is a plan for short modules, not for the long onboarding courses the product is marketed around.
What a finished minute actually costs
Colossyan is easier to compare than most of this field precisely because it bills in minutes, so no credit conversion is needed. The rows below combine that with rates CartSignal verified on each vendor's own pages between 8 and 14 September 2026. Every figure assumes the vendor's best annual rate.

Blended, Colossyan lands mid-field — under Synthesia, over Pictory, and about 9x HeyGen's cheapest model. That is an unremarkable position, and on price alone there is no reason to choose it. The interesting row is the last one: if NEO2 is what you are actually buying, $5.90 is the most expensive in-plan avatar minute CartSignal has costed anywhere except Pictory Starter's custom avatar. The add-on pack is cheaper than the plan it tops up
Colossyan states that on a Professional yearly plan you can buy "600 extra NEO2 minutes for $1,500/year". That is exactly $2.50 a minute — and it undercuts the plan's own in-plan NEO2 attribution of $5.90 by 57.6%.
This is the reverse of nearly every other vendor on this site. Descript and Pictory both price their top-ups above the in-plan rate, which is the normal shape: the plan is the discount and the overflow is the penalty. At Colossyan the overflow is the discount. The pack is also five times the entire annual NEO2 allowance for roughly twice the annual subscription price.
The caveat matters, though. That $5.90 comes from attributing the whole $708 subscription to one of two meters, which is a modelling choice rather than a Colossyan rate — the same caveat CartSignal attached to this number when it first appeared. What survives the caveat is the practical rule: if NEO2 is the model you need, price the add-on pack before you price a bigger plan, because the plan ladder is not where the cheap NEO2 minutes are.
And the upgrade from free is the worst way to buy a minute
Starter carries 240 NEO minutes a year for nothing. Professional carries 480. So $708 buys 240 additional minutes, at $2.95 each — 18% more than the add-on pack rate and twice the blended figure the plan advertises.
That arithmetic is deliberately unfair to Colossyan, and it is worth saying why: "Watermark removal" is listed on the pricing page as a Professional feature, which means the free tier's output carries a watermark — so those 240 free minutes are evaluation minutes rather than publishable ones. The upgrade also buys NEO2 access, SCORM export, AI image generation and up to three editors. The honest reading is not "the upgrade is bad value" but "the upgrade is not a minutes purchase". If more minutes are all you want, the add-on pack is the cheaper door.
The meter rules, which are mostly generous
Colossyan's FAQ is unusually explicit about how the meter behaves, and on balance it favours the buyer more than most of this category.

The free pause corrects something CartSignal published earlier: Best AI avatar video tools stated that Colossyan monthly plans cannot be paused. Colossyan's FAQ says the opposite, and that page has been corrected.
Custom avatars: two products, three disagreements
Colossyan sells two kinds of avatar of a real person, and its pages do not describe them consistently.

The disagreements, all between Colossyan's own surfaces on the same day:
- The pricing FAQ describes studio avatars as "filmed professionally using a green screen". The custom avatar page says Studio Avatars "can be recorded anywhere with good lighting — no green screen required".
- The pricing FAQ sells studio avatars as a $1,000-a-year add-on, implying you can buy one. The custom avatar page says they are "Available only for Enterprise clients".
- The pricing FAQ claims "120+ languages"; the avatars page and the homepage both say "100+ languages".
The number that matters regardless of which page is right: $1,000 a year is about 141% of the $708 Professional subscription. One studio avatar costs more than the product it runs on — the same shape CartSignal found at Pictory, where a tier change moved the bill more than a vendor change would.
Consent
Colossyan's stated rule is that "Anyone can be a custom avatar as long as they have given their explicit consent", that you "need to be at least 18 years of age to request an AI avatar", and that avatars of minors and animals are not allowed. CartSignal found no published description of how that consent is verified. That is a statement about what is on the public pages, not an allegation that no process exists — but it is worth contrasting with Speechify, which documents a challenge-response flow where the vendor issues a phrase, records the speaker reading it and keeps the recording as the consent record. If you are cloning colleagues for internal training, the difference is your compliance file, not the vendor's.
Where Colossyan is actually the right answer
Not on price per minute, as the table above shows. The case for Colossyan is that it is built for a different output: it describes itself as a platform that turns existing knowledge into "training and enablement content", and it ships course authoring, quizzes, branching interactive video and SCORM export as part of the product rather than as an enterprise upsell.
Its own comparison page puts the argument as "HeyGen outputs video files. Colossyan outputs complete training programs ready for your LMS", and claims SCORM export on all paid plans against HeyGen requiring "the $149/mo Business tier". That is a vendor claim about a rival, so CartSignal checked the rival half against its own verified data — and HeyGen Business is indeed $149 a month, re-verified on HeyGen's official pricing page on 12 September 2026. On that basis the LMS-export comparison holds up:

That is 60.4% less per year for the SCORM capability — a far larger difference than anything in the per-minute table, and it runs the opposite way. If your output is a file you drop into an LMS, Colossyan is cheap. If your output is a video file, it is not.
The governance side is also stronger than average for this category: Colossyan states it is SOC 2 Type II certified and GDPR compliant, offers EU or US data residency on Enterprise, and says plainly that it "does not train AI models on customer content". Enterprise SCORM is stated as compatible with "any SCORM 1.2 or 2004 LMS". Who should look elsewhere
- Anyone buying on cost per minute. HeyGen's Avatar III Video Look is about 9x cheaper blended and 37x cheaper than a Colossyan NEO2 minute. Changing avatar model inside HeyGen saves more than changing vendor.
- High-volume publishers. Ten NEO2 minutes a month does not survive contact with a weekly video. The add-on pack fixes the volume at $2.50 a minute, but that is a $1,500 commitment, not a plan upgrade.
- Anyone who needs a price today. Two official surfaces give two annual rates 51% apart, and Enterprise publishes nothing. Budget from checkout, not from the site.
- Marketing and social video teams. The course authoring, SCORM and branching features you are paying for are LMS machinery. Best AI video tools covers the editing and generative lanes instead.
